Silver films production company

Sliver films is one of the best short film production companies. It was founded in 1996 by producer Janey de Nordwall, who join ten years later with commercials director Richard Oliver. There films are known for it high production value, they do films for different purposes but the main being commercial and advertisement.


There motto is " We believe that if you talk to people, rather than shout, they listen. If they’re listening, you can connect with them" , meaning that rather than shove a message down someone throat in a self righteous way you can get your message across in a more subtle and not judgemental way


They do a lot of automotive commercials like the one below but instead thinking of  them as  just adverts they view them as short mood films which shows there feeling on what tone the car has and also they feeling you gain when driving it




They have created five award winning short film including the bafta winning about a girl. They believe that a short film can now become a powerful marketing tool for charities; helping to raise funding and affect change as well as fulfilling criteria for socially responsible brand. They also did the oscar nominated "talking with angels"

"I am married" prelim task

I am Married from BDC on Vimeo.

Our task was to in small groups film a short film with a narrative:

-      -   Character opens the door

-       - Walks across the room

-     -   Is met with another person and begins a conversation

Well to be honest apart from the first day of filming with jus katie and I i didnt really get to involved in this task because i felt like i was just being used as the scape goat for the group. When it was filming day It was just me and katie because sam waas not in. We didnt have much ideas of what to do and how to film us having a conversation but i thought what we eventually filmed was decent. When log and capturing the footage by myself the computer started to freeze up so i i quick press save. The next time when editing te orignal footage i got a bit invovled. But then i was ill so i couldnt bring in the tape when my group said the footage was lost

Short Films on the internet

The Internet has been and a great way to watch short films, particularly via YouTube. Now other sites, such as Vimeo, that have HD quality, are becoming the vehicles of choice for film-makers wanting to show off their skills. Internet allowing easy access to an audience and fan base has made it the main way young unknown directors freely publish there film on internet to get recogation. Of course, the problem of how to make such movies cost-effective exists, but, for consumers at least, there has never been a better time to seek out and watch short films.

The internet has been the start of many careers and it the promtion aspect of it is amazing because people can just embedded it in any social and some non social website instantly giving you free promtion. The only problem is getting first seen.

BBC short film network is a website which publishes top films from known and unknown directors whih they have reviewed themselves and thought it fit to be on the website. So unlike Vimeo and Youtube you cant just upload your videos and its going to the audience striaght away , its has to been approved by the bbc. Which can been seen as a good thing to the audiene because it means it will have a level quality about it. Coffee shorts is similair but it instead it finds the directors soome times and also it deals with mainly indie films. Bbc fil network is also a good place to find information about a short film or directoe because once they have uploaded your video they create a profile

The internet is essential for short films because unlike feature film a short film is rarely  shown in cinema so meaning it thier is little money init. So by using a site like youtube its not really none for money but it is done to get notice, even though top directors and amazing new ones can make money via sites like youtube by allowing ads to  be in and around there video and page.

Encounters Short Film Festival

The Encouters International Short Film Festival will be hosting there 16th awards next month.It includes to festivals which are brief Encounters and animated Encounters , it is done around the bristol area

Only in 2006 merging to one, so in 1995 as Brief Encounters originally , the makers thought it would be a one of event to mark the centenary of cinema. It proved so popular that it is now an annual attraction and known as one of the most respected short film festivals and gaining international acclaim with it drawing in more crowds every day

They have no real restrctions on films accept time, every genre is allowed from animation to Drama to musi videos. The festival has been the place where  some amazing short films have been made such as Boxer and The best man. The appeal of this festival has drawn in directors such as Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank), Tom Harper (The Scouting Book for Boys) and Eran Creevy (Shifty)  who come as spectators and also do Q&A

Review
Compilations always have low points, and neither Javier Fesser nor Jan Kounen's contributions will win new fans. However, there are shorts here that intrigue and impress with their visual ingenuity (including early efforts by Lars Von Trier and Tom Tykwer).

But it's the old guard who provide the highlights - Krzyzstof Kieslowski's biting Concert Of Requests, Roy Andersson's bleakly satirical World Of Glory and Jean-Luc Godard's charming Charlotte Et Véronique.

Verdict
The chance to see early work from some European greats more than makes up for a few weaker entries.
